Initial Cattle Barons Ball
It was 1974 when the first-ever Cattle Barons Ball took place. Many attended the Star Brand Ranch event, raising about $56,000. The money raised from this and subsequent events went to the American Cancer Society to fund cancer research. Sponsors and donors donate luxurious items, and many well-renowned country music stars come to the event to ensure its success.
Cattle Baron described landowners or local businesspeople who had enormous influence or power due to operating a large ranch with beef cattle. Cattle Barons in the 19th century were ranchers, stockmen, and cowmen.

What Can You Expect at A Cattle Barons Ball?
Those who know and have attended a Cattle Barons Ball know how big of a deal it is. Hosting the event is a big deal and begins with a nomination and then a panel discussion about whether your family can raise money – the central premise of the event. Once a person has been nominated, they cannot be nominated again as the panel will blacklist them.
The hosting committee makes its money through the tickets and tables it offers for purchase. Once at the ball, attendees enjoy the live music, dancing, and great food. Many artists will contribute their time to the cancer research cause. Silent auctions are also held, and the money raised goes toward the cause.
Performing Artists – There is a long list of artists who have performed at the Cattle Barons ball, including but not limited to Toby Keith, Johnny Cash, Tammy Wynette, Sugarland, Waylon Jennings, George Strait, and Willie Nelson.
