General FAQs

  • What is Global Sporting Safaris and Global Charity Safaris exactly?

Global Sporting Safaris is a full-service booking agency for hunting trips all around the world. The company was started by Dick (father) and Rick (son) Kennerknecht. They enjoyed traveling the world to hunt, participate in shooting competitions and writing articles about various destinations and activities. The father and son decided that the world was ready for GSS to connect them to the best outfitters and experiences out there. Using their vast connections and networking they created Global Sporting Safaris.

GSS does a lot of vetting and research on outfitters from all over the world finding the very best to add to our repertoire. We offer only the best to our clients and weed out the sub-par or less than impressive outfits. This is the basis of the company, but Rick thought that we could do more. He had an idea that we could help charities and organizations while at the same time grow our clientele. As such what is best known as the African Hunt Club was born in 2010.

The program began as a humble division of GSS offering African hunting packages to charities for auction. The idea spread like wildfire! The program grew into a much bigger idea, now offering destinations in several countries! As such we had outgrown the name “African Hunt Club” and have changed the name to Global Charity Safaris. We work hard to find new and exciting destinations each year to add to the program to keep excitement at the charity events and really get people amped up for the events and for the trips.

  • Does GSS get any of the money that is paid at auction?

Most of our hunt packages are 100% donations, however we do have some that are not. Some packages we at GSS must pay for so in those cases we will ask for that base cost back after the event. Any profits beyond are for the organization to keep.

  • Is the charity or foundation penalized if a package does not sell?

No, if a package does not sell we just put it back into our “inventory” for the next group who needs to fundraise.

  • How does GSS benefit from this program?

We believe that if you can help, you should. We are fortunate enough to be in a position that we can help! We benefit by getting our company name out there and hopefully gaining some new clients who will hunt with us again in the future. For us it is an investment of sorts and is extremely rewarding to help such important and deserving causes.

  • Are the destinations safe to travel to?

Any international travel has a certain degree of risk, but overall our destinations are safe. If safe traveling habits are practiced, you shouldn’t have to worry about a thing. A guide is ready to pick you up as soon as you land so you will always have an experienced local at your side.

  • Trophy hunting is a little controversial, can you please explain how the trips affect the locals?

Hunting in general is controversial, but especially trophy hunting! We only use outfitters who respect and follow all local regulations as to responsible and sustainable hunting. It is a passion and a way of life for most of these people and they are eager to share it with others. The meat can in most cases be used by the hunters while there, and the left-over portions are donated to local villages or used in other ways. We strive to ensure that there is very little waste. It helps locals because in many cases they are being over run with animals who pose a threat to their safety, or to their livelihoods. Responsible and legal hunting deters poaching and boosts local revenues greatly.

Auction Team

  • What is the auctioning team required to do?

We don’t require much, because we know that putting an event together is a lot of work! Our goal is to provide you with a profitable donation with minimal work on your part. Once your event concludes, please just complete the auction winner form (provided to you in the link) and send it over to us. You may email it to jen@gssafaris.com or fax it to 1-866-422-4578. We handle the rest!

  • How should we respond if someone raises a fuss about these being trophy hunts?

This is a controversial topic and a controversial industry, we know that. If someone should raise a difficult question you may choose to respond with the facts. Responsible hunting is necessary for conservation. All our outfitters are dedicated to responsible, sustainable hunting and follow all the local and federal conservation laws and regulations. While the meat won’t fill the winner’s freezer it will be used in other ways and the people in each area are greatly appreciative. Like with many topics, there is always more than what meets the eye. You are always welcome to speak with a member of our team on this topic as well, they have a wealth of knowledge on the matter.

  • What will the winner need to pay for?

Winners will need to prepare for covering the following items, which are not included in our hunting packages:

    • Airfare – the airline prices differ each day and by company, so this is hard to estimate. Not to worry, we can refer you to expert airline consolidators who can get you the best deal.
    • Trophy fees- trophy fees are the fee required to hunt each animal. This fee will cover any needed permits or licenses when required as well with exception to Cast & Blast package which does not utilize trophy fees.
    • Trip Cancellation and Emergency Medical coverage- We hope our clients will never need to cancel a trip due to a family or work emergency, but life happens. We strongly encourage that our clients get cancellation insurance to cover their investments in the hunt. Emergency medical is also a very smart idea, just in case something happens while traveling. While rare, these issues can be very daunting and having the coverage can be a “life saver”!
    • Tips/gratuities- The staff working on your hunt with you will be with you every step of the way. Because this is a donation hunt, the outfitter and staff are providing full level services to you while not making much profit. The folks live to hunt and have a passion for sharing that with clients. They work hard, and tipping is a great way to show gratitude for all their efforts.
  • Is there a minimum for what must be hunted?

Yes- In South Africa each hunter must take at least three animals of their choice. In New Zealand Each hunter must take a Red Stag <375 SCI points each. In Argentina each hunter must choose at least one animal to hunt.

  • Can additional people join?

Yes! We love to help families and friends make life long memories. There are fees for adding hunters and non-hunting observers, though we get that at a specially discounted rate for this. You can find the current pricing in your brochure as well as a listing of additional activities that may be available. Please note that non-hunting observers cannot be traded for the two hunter inclusions in the package. The packages must have at least two hunters.

  • Can a package be traded for a different destination?

Yes, however it must be one of our currently offered destinations within the donation program and it must be handled through our business office. The package cannot be traded for one of the hunts offered by Global Sporting Safaris in the direct sales branch.

  • What is required of the auction winner / package owner?

A winner may choose to donate their hunt package to another charity to be auctioned again. They may also give the package to someone else for them to use if they choose. They will need to make these arrangements or select their hunt dates within 45 days. The hunters can choose dates from the current hunting season, or up to two seasons in the future. (Example, if it is 2018 a winner may choose dates from the 2018, 2019, or 2020 hunting seasons). The dates selection in of course dependent on the outfitter’s availability. The hunters will then need to pay a deposit for each hunter to GSS, told hold their dates. This deposit will be applied in full to their trophy fees. For more detailed responsibilities please refer to our Terms and Conditions.

  • If needed, can a trip be rescheduled once booked?

Yes. Hunters may sometimes need to reschedule for a variety of reasons, and we understand this. We are happy to reschedule hunters for new dates but require a rescheduling fee of $500 for prime dates, and $250 for non-prime dates. This money allows us to make the change with the outfitter.

  • What caliber rifle is recommended?

This will depend a little on which animals are on your wish list. For the plains game, most Professional Hunters use a .270. For some of the larger game PH’s have been known to suggest a .308 or .375. For a customized analysis based on your animal wish list and destination please reach out to your representative.

  • Do I need my own rifle?

No, hunters can bring their own if they wish or they may rent from the outfitter for a small fee. The New Zealand package includes rifle and ammunition at no additional cost.

  • Do I have to hunt with a rifle or can I hunt with a bow instead?

Bow hunting is available. Please let GSS know which method you will be using when you book your dates.

  • Can I bring the meat home?

The United States does not allow the meat to be brought or shipped home. The private chefs will be happy to prepare some for you to try if you like, and the rest is then donated to the needy in the area.

  • Does each hunter get a private room?

Yes, the package will include lodging for both hunters in separate rooms.

  • How do I know that this outfitter is reputable?

Every outfitter that GSS represents has been thoroughly vetted and researched by our team. We only choose our very best to participate in our program. Each outfitter is required to uphold all local and federal conservations and sustainability laws. The outfitters are also SCI (Safari Club International) members which has a strict set of expectations as well. Members of our team have been to visit to ensure that the highest level of service, safety, and experience is upheld.

  • What is the best time to schedule my hunt?

Argentina dates begin March 1 and run through April 30th. South Africa hunting season is March 1 through November 30 each year. New Zealand hunting dates range from March 1 through June 30.

  • After the deposit, how and when do I pay the remaining fees?

Your deposit is applied to your trophy fees, and any remaining fees will be due to the outfitter at the end of your hunt. The outfitters can accept some credit cards, but please ask your representative to confirm your specific payment method. GSS also offers a prepay service so that hunters will not need to carry as much currency while traveling. You can choose to prepay the trophy fees for what you wish to hunt and GSS will wire the funds to the outfitter for you. There is a bank transfer fee required to cover the cost of making the wire, and that fee is incremental based on how much money is sent. Please speak with your representative to get a quote and set up arrangements. If you are going to prepay, GSS requires that you pay the funds no less than 90 days prior to your hunt.

  • Will the hunters need to get any vaccines?

It is very possible that they may. We suggest that you begin by visiting the Centers for Disease Control website at:
